Truthfully, this is how I’ve ALWAYS voted. I’ve voted via voted using an absentee ballet for ten years. It’s something that I cherish deeply about my country. I’ve mailed in my ballot from Italy, Japan and the Persian Gulf. While there are many Americans who believe voting doesn’t matter and that the system is rigged against us, I’ve never let narrative keep me from mailing in my ballot.
Yes, absentee ballots are often the LAST to be counted.
By the time they reach the pile, the election might have already been decided. This is going to a crazy week, just as it’s been a crazy year. Because more Americans will be mailing in their vote. We might not have a definitive tally by the end of Election Day, and that’s a scary thought for many people.
At this point, I’m just waiting to see what happens.
With all the hashtags and social media activism, I only hope that folks actually took the time out to vote. In many ways, voting is made difficult in America, but it’s not impossible. And I feel that many Americans, many around my age, are willing giving up their right to vote because they feel it’s too bothersome to put the work in to make it happen. But on the flipside, I’ve seen people jump through hopes for some seriously irrelevant shit.
